TURMAC CIGARETTES

Rare oval TURMAC Cigarettes enamel sign, produced at the Emallerie Belge in Brussels in 1931. TURMAC (Turkish Macedonian Tobacco Company) was a factory in Zevenaar, Holland, founded around 1920. They imported tobacco from Turkey and Macedonia and that’s how the brandname was composed & found TUR-MAC. Turmac invested a lot of attention in their advertising, branding and packages. As the brand was strongly promoted and distributed in the 1920’s and 1930’s, these cigarettes were much appreciated all over the world, from Holland to Switzerland, from Paris to Brussels. Just take a close look at the colorful mosque carefully depicted in all its details on a deep blue background. Orientalism ‘pure sang’, and at the same time a very special sign that is part of a complete series of 7 different orienal tobacco signs in total, all with the exact same oval shape and dimensions for the brands Xanthia -, Laurens -, and Turmac cigarettes.
