ZENITH Precisión Astronómica
A beautiful rare enamel advertising sign for Zenith, pocket watches, designed by Jean D’Ylen, pupil of the great Leonetto Cappiello at Studio Vercasson, Paris. In our opinion it is one of Jean D’Ylens’ best designs, far more beautiful than Cappiello’s work for Zenith from around the same period.
The design shows Chronos, king of the Titans and the Greek god of time, on a Zenith pocket watch. The sign is curved, the vivid colours really pop off the black background.
The Swiss brand Zenith was launched in 1865 by Georges Favre-Jacot in Lelocle/Neuchâtel and was competing with other brands as Omega, Junghans, Elections, etc. This small version with Spanish text was destined for the Argentine market. The sign also exists in a larger version with folded edges. How lucky we are to still enjoy this beautiful design today!
