SPA MONOPOLE – L’eau qui pétille
A very wanted sign on top of many enthusiasts and collector’s wishlist … the 1930’s SPA MONOPOLE pierrot-clown spraying off the top of a bottle of Spa Monopole sparkling mineral water. One of the most fantastic images ever designed by the great Jean d’Ylen (FR, 1886-1938) while he was working for the Studio Vercasson in Paris. The Spa Pierrot is a Belgian classic and commonly regarded as a symbol of Belgian enamel advertising. The design was used in 1924 to launch the advertising campaign for Spa-Monopole products. The black version is probably one of the most sought-after signs in Europe. This piece was produced at the Emaillerie Belge in Bruxelles in 1935. Besides of the stunning design, the thick quality enamel, fresh colors and superb gloss make it an appealing piece. Being almost 90 years old, it has a small steel damage in the upper left corner, which can be easily fixed should it bother. And there is a small impact in the black background, right from the pierrot. This sign was never published nor auctioned before, and is coming fresh to the market out of private hands.
