LA VACHE QUI RIT

Collectors will appreciate this rare enamel advertising sign celebrating the iconic La Vache qui Rit. Dating from the 1930s, it features the beloved “Laughing Cow” created by famed illustrator Benjamin Rabier, whose stroke of genius gave the brand its instantly recognisable red cow with signature earrings.
Rabier’s charming, modern design helped transform the cheese brand into a cultural icon, and enamel signs like this one once brightened grocery shops and dairies across France. Today, it brings an unmistakable retro charm to any interior—a true kitchen eye-catcher and an exceptional piece for enthusiasts of vintage advertising graphics.
Throughout the 1930’s numerous La Vache Qui Rit enamel signs were produced in both France and Belgium. Mostly the commonly known round, curved signs in small or large size. This one however is the more exclusive thermometer sign that has become a much more difficult find these days. The VQR thermometer signs were only produced in France by the Emaillerie Alsacienne Strasbourg, and in Germany by Ferro Email. Both with small differences … just compare Rabier’s signatures if you ever get the chance.
