CHOCOLAT-MENIER, FONDÉ EN 1816
Some antique enamel advertising signs are true ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ opportunities … the kind that don’t resurface, and when they do they don’t last long.
This beautiful antique enamel sign for Chocolat Menier, produced between 1930-1935, is based on a 1929 poster design by EDIA in Paris. This sign was made by the renowned Vitracier Japy Frères enamel factory for the 1935 Paris Fair (Foire de Paris), showcasing the biggest commercial trade fair in the city. A striking advertisement for a brand that was part of the top alimentation names of the era, next to Maggi, Nestlé, Vache Qui Rit, Pernod, Martini & Rossi, Pernod …
This piece stands out with its innovative Art Deco graphics, featuring the redesigned “Little Menier Girl” from the late 1920s, distinguished by her boyish haircut and short pleated skirt.
In this larger size only 1 piece in 95cm x 130cm and this one in 80cm x 120cm are known to exist today. A smaller 50cm x 100cm version with similar design was produced by JAPY Frères during the 1930’s in larger quantity but still remains extremely rare upon today.
No doubt this is the most beautiful antique Art Deco enamel sign bringing the chocolate-theme to the absolute highest level. This is an exceptional and rare opportunity to acquire a truly unique piece of history.
